Here comes Lester

James Franco is now filming Child of God. This may not be the most interesting YouTube video in the world, but those of you who don't know the name Lester Ballard yet, I assure you you will in a year or so when the film comes out.

After all, everybody loves a murderous necrophiliac troglodyte, don't they?

Do you think he can do it? Make a successful adaptation? I read that he wants to tackle Blood Meridian, as well as Faulkner's As I Lay Dying (which, incidentally, happens to be my favorite Faulkner novel)...shew, that book {Blood Meridian} beat Ridley Scott and Todd Field, can't fault the fella for ambition...

Yes, I think so. I think the novel is quite filmic in a lot of ways. Certainly, the scenes underground in Lester's caves will be atmospheric.

I don't think BM is filmable. It would become either tiresomely violent or too arch. It would be difficult to get the judge right.

I can't see how you could successfully film As I Lay Dying either. Some novels are best left alone. BM and AILD are two such.
